Cindy

My neighbor and friend, Cindy, was diagnosed with breast cancer a few months ago. She has had a tough time. Very sick through six chemo treatments and then last Friday was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. It's been a long and scary week but this gal is a fighter and is doing some better. I feel safe to say she isn't ready to turn any cartwheels yet but, she is hanging in there.

I thought it would be a good time to blog about her and post a quote from Bill Cosby that I love...

“Through humor, you can soften some of the worst blows that life delivers. And once you find laughter, no matter how painful your situation might be, you can survive it.” -Bill Cosby

And here are the girls......

The Quickie by James Patterson

Another book read. This was a GREAT summer reading book...

I have a confession. I've had this one in my stack of books to read for a while. I mean like over a year it's been lying there. Now, I just don't understand why I didn't read it sooner.

It was a very fast read. (he he ...title The Quickie...fast read...get it?)

Seriously, it was a page turner. Lots of turns and twists. I found myself saying things out loud like...

"No Way"! and "Are you kidding me"?

I recommend it if you like a little mystery, thriller, nail bitter, and surprise.

Good one James Patterson!!!

Retro Packaging ....

Is it a ploy for those of us 40 somethings to buy the beloved junk food from our past or what?

I went to the grocery store the other evening. My mission was "FOOD"!!! (Mollie said we had NOTHING in the house to eat...may I give a disclaimer?...we have "FOOD" just not the kind she wanted..)
As I strolled down the chip aisle.... (i.e. Mollie's idea of "real" food)
...my heart went pitter patter when I saw the retro packaging of one of my favorites and retro-ish packaging and flavor of what my family calls..."stinky chips".

Here is the LIMITED EDITION retro packaging of Cheetos. Wow...cool memories. Reminds me of my teenage years.

And here is the Doritos Taco Flavor in retro-ish packaging. And yes, I bought the Doritos Taco Flavor. I wanted to see if the flavor was what I remembered and I also wanted Mollie to try them. But, if I remember correctly, the packaging is a bit different. There was a clear circle you could actually see the chips through in the original bags. ( I guess they didn't want us to see how some chips may have "settled" during shipping...right? ha )
Mollie, fell in love with them. Kind of cool to introduce her to something I ate as a kid and gave me a taste from the past. However, I don't remember the indigestion from the past. :)

More Saturday Doings...

We went to the movie Friday night and Saturday we "got our hair did".
It was fun and kinda nice to let someone "play" with my hair and "wash my head" as my Granny Girdner used to say. :)

Friday Night...

Friday night, I did something I have never done before. Mollie, Gina, and I went to see a movie at the Orpheum Theater in Memphis.
I have always wanted to go and watch one during the Orpheum's Summer Movie Series. Mollie and I have been to several off Broadway productions at the Orpheum but, never to watch a movie.
Friday was the first movie of the Summer of 2011 and one of our favorites.

Breakfast at Tiffany's Starring Audrey Hepburn

It was really cool to see an old movie on "the big screen". Plus popcorn and air conditioning...ahhhhh

Very fun Friday Night!!!

Pirates...

This was actually LAST weekend that Mollie and I went to see Pirates of the Caribbean; On Stranger Tides. So, I am catching you up on news.

On Stranger Tides is the fourth of the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

We have seen all of them so, it was kind of tradition that we go see number four.

We lost a couple of regulars in this movie. Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann are not in number four.
But even though a couple of characters were not in this one, we still liked it. We love Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. He makes me giggle.

My Niece said stop doing this...

My niece Mindy told me to stop doing this. Yes, I hang my bras on the door knob. The last time the Doughtie family came to visit, my sweet precious Justus, who loves football, asked me if it was a helmet.

I think I should stop hanging my bras on the door knob.
